School of Barf

by ylmmb on March 24, 2009

We understand the need to be punk rock and anti-establishment and all that but seriously? How does this work on any level other than toddler rock?

The Three Elements of Barf

by ylmmb on March 24, 2009

On this rare find we see three elements coming together to form barfation. Beveling on the inside of the typeface, liberal use of gradients, and several color schemes all symbiotically achieving harmony at once.

The Bookend Logo

by ylmmb on March 23, 2009

We’ve all been faced with this design challenge at one time or another: secondary text or words that need to find a home somewhere under the main text. While most would probably wrestle with the typeface until it obeys, there are others who succumb to the pressures of what we like to call the “Bookend Logo” (sometimes also called the “Logo Sandwich”).

Simply put, a Bookend Logo takes two enlarged capital letters and smashes everything else in between them. The result: a logo that people have a hard time reading and some fun words created in middle. Seen here is ITA and PILLE.

Exquisite Outdoor Barfing

by ylmmb on March 21, 2009

Kris spotted this logo on a van while driving in Georgia. She writes, “At the first glance, I thought it was some sort of fat lightening bolts, but when I read the company name I was even more baffled. What do clipart elongated triangles have to do with lighting? I realize it may be a difficult concept to roll into a logo design, but that’s when you go for something SIMPLISTIC.”

We couldn’t agree with her more.

Another shot of the logo from the website.
